gROS vENTRE rIVER
gRAND tETON naTIONAL paRK JACKSON, WY
Floods in 2016 eroded a significant portion of the stream-bank along the road between Jackson and Kelly WY. Emergency rip-rap dumps were made to stop the erosion however these were not engineered and needed to be stabilized. Clearwater Restoration partnered with Oftedal Construction, a heavy civil construction firm, to fix the road. We constructed a diversion channel to handle the full flow of the Gros Ventre River, stabilized the emergency rip-rap placements, added engineered barbs (natural channel design) to dissipate erosive flows, and restored pool habitats near the barbs. We also regraded the banks to a natural slope and planted willows in the rip-rap to further dissipate scouring flows and protect stream banks.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS:
